So here I am without interwebs in a strange little room, in a strange little house, with people who are strange to me. My cats think it even stranger as they smell strange animals – a dog, 2 cats and 2 newborn kittens – and aren’t sure what to make of it all yet.  They can’t be blamed, it will take me a while to get used to this place too.  I’m actually not too sure I want to get used to it.  The neighborhood, the half-working house, the strong ammonia smell permeating the place (gave me a bad headache within a half hour), the size and disrepair of the room… None of it warrants the price of the room. I have a window open and a fan on trying to air it out but it isn’t helping. I’m not sure if it’s coming from her cats or from the makeshift bathroom.  There is a puddle in the floorboards around the toilet (which doesn’t work) so it may well be a human smell.  I’m going to have to find somewhere to take showers because the shower here is not fully installed and there is no hot water anyway (or any light in the corner of the kitchen where a bathroom was allegedly being built).  There’s also no ability to cook, as there is a stove but no power hookup for it. This essentially “indoor camping” is costing me $100 a week.  It’s going to be hard to save up for anything down the road. I guess if you break that down, it’s $14.28 a night, about the price of a campsite (but at least there are bathrooms at campgrounds).
