000058MD : C++ Runtime error citing “mediahub.exe” (AKA: The Devil Made Me Do It)

000058MD : C++ Runtime error citing “mediahub.exe”.

Amusing, yet scary at the same time, I thought I would share this little incident with all the techno-geeks out there.  (Coming from a bona-fide non-geek, of course.)

Heather   says:
please explain “The instruction at 0x0038a373 referenced memory at 0x12963a5f. The memory could not be ‘written’. Click on OK to terminate the program.”

Eddie says:
crappy software bug or possibly bad memory chip.

Eddie says:
more often that is crappy software

Eddie says:
if it does it again though you might reseat the memory chip

Heather   says:
and what is mediahub.exe?

Eddie says:
don’t know

Eddie says:
i’ll look it up

Heather   says:
and what does a memory chip look like?

Heather   says:
and where might i find it?

Heather   says:
after removing 6″ of dust from the inside of my computer, that is

Eddie says:
part of the roxio software it looks like

Heather   says:
oh gods

Heather   says:
it’s getting worse

Heather   says:
i clicked OK

Heather   says:
NEVER CLICK OK

Eddie says:
gonna have to reboot possibly

Heather   says:

“The exception Privileged instruction. (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x129df9d1. Click on OK to terminate the program.”

Heather   says:
i think my computer is cussing at me

Heather   says:
Runtime Error!  Program:…ommon FilesSonic SharedSonic CentralMainMediahub.exe R6025 – pure virtual function call

Heather   says:
NOW it makes sense…. it didn’t like Robby’s Backstreet Boys music!

Eddie says:
is it a dell computer?

Heather   says:
yessir

Eddie says:
http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000058MD

Heather   says:
i just choked on a hiccup

Eddie says:
oooh ick

Eddie says:
that just sounds painful

Heather   says:
it was “different”

Heather   says:
so basically that error is telling me that robby’s music and my music are incompatible.  well we knew that.

Eddie says:
there’s a download on that page which is supposed to fix dell versions of mydvd

Heather   says:
think we can “patch” things up?

Heather   says:
lol mydvd… sounds welsh

Eddie says:
ba dum bum

Heather   says:
tee

Heather   says:
does the computer god recommend i make this patch? tell me o wise oracle of the kingdom of Geek…

Eddie says:
the alternatives are worse

Heather   says:
resistance is futile?

Eddie says:
it seems to fit rather well, but it is a little scary patching software

Heather   says:
yes… yes it is… and it’s patching both sides… not just Sonic (which i love so dearly i could kiss it)

Eddie says:
if it were my computer i’d probably try it cause i figure i could undo it if necessary

Heather   says:
can you?? HOW??

Eddie says:
not easily

Eddie says:
depends on what goes wrong

Heather   says:
*grumbles*

Eddie says:
i can reload the os if necessary though

Heather   says:
OMG NO!

Eddie says:
let’s hope it doesn’t come to that

*Side note:  I am not brave enough yet to try this.  I’m gonna wait til I have the ability to actually PRINT that page.
